spacodiR: structuring of phylogenetic diversity in ecological communities

چکیده
MOTIVATION spacodiR is a cross-platform package, written for the R environment, for studying partitioning of diversity among natural communities in space and time. Complementing and extending existing software, spacodiR allows for hypothesis testing and parameter estimation in studying spatial structuring of species-, phylogenetic- and trait diversities. AVAILABILITY Integrated with other software in the R environment and with well documented and demonstrated functions, spacodiR is an open-source package and available at http://cran.r-project.org. Quantifying Phylogenetic Beta Diversity: Distinguishing between ‘True’ Turnover of Lineages and Phylogenetic Diversity Gradients
The evolutionary dissimilarity between communities (phylogenetic beta diversity PBD) has been increasingly explored by ecologists and biogeographers to assess the relative roles of ecological and evolutionary processes in structuring natural communities. Among PBD measures, the PhyloSor and UniFrac indices have been widely used to assess the level of turnover of lineages over geographical and e...
متن کاملTurnover of plant lineages shapes herbivore phylogenetic beta diversity along ecological gradients.
Understanding drivers of biodiversity patterns is of prime importance in this era of severe environmental crisis. More diverse plant communities have been postulated to represent a larger functional trait-space, more likely to sustain a diverse assembly of herbivore species. Here, we expand this hypothesis to integrate environmental, functional and phylogenetic variation of plant communities as...
متن کاملThe influence of spatial and size scale on phylogenetic relatedness in tropical forest communities.
The relative importance of biotic, abiotic, and stochastic processes in structuring ecological communities continues to be a central focus in community ecology. In order to assess the role of phylogenetic relatedness on the nature of biodiversity we first quantified the degree of phylogenetic niche conservatism of several plant traits linked to plant form and function. Next we quantified the de...
متن کاملInvasive ants alter the phylogenetic structure of ant communities.
Invasive species displace native species and potentially alter the structure and function of ecological communities. In this study, we compared the generic composition of intact and invaded ant communities from 12 published studies and found that invasive ant species alter the phylogenetic structure of native ant communities. Intact ant communities were phylogenetically evenly dispersed, sugges...
متن کاملLatitudinal variation in nematode diversity and ecological roles along the Chinese coast
AIM To test changes in the phylogenetic relatedness, niche breadth, and life-history strategies of nematodes along a latitudinal gradient. LOCATION Sixteen wetland locations along the Pacific coast of China, from 20°N to 40°N. METHODS Linear regression was used to relate nematode phylogenetic relatedness (average taxonomic distinctness (AvTD) and average phylogenetic diversity [AvPD]), life...
